This past week was National School Counselor Week across the nation, “providing lessons for life during and after high school,” according to the American School Counselor Association. It lasts from February 4 to February 8, and its purpose is to highlight the immensely important role school counselors play in the futures of their students academically and their lives after high school and/or college.

Here at RMHS, counselors prioritize what the students’ goals and aspirations are for their futures, and what steps they need to take in order to be successful at whatever they want to do after their high school careers are over. There are counselors for each of the academies such as the AVID program, the RACE academy, the CAFE academy, and the advanced performing arts program. Along with the department leaders, there is a specialist for career guidance as well as a specialist for prevention who works with students to make sure they are motivated to continue working on their academics and attendance if they seem to be going off track.
