About the “This I Believe” Writing Contest at RMHS

About+the+This+I+Believe+Writing+Contest+at+RMHS

The “This I Believe” essay contest was based on Edward R. Murrow’s early National Public Radio Show that popularly engaged people in discussing the beliefs that guided them through their day to day lives. The contest began at Rancho Mirage High School in 2015, when students were asked to develop an essay from a deeply held personal belief statement. Over the years, the contest has evolved to include all English students, with a different genre in each grade level. As freshmen, students develop “I Believe” statements and write an essay, adapt that essay into a poem as sophomores, craft a short story based on their belief as juniors, and finally draft a letter of advocacy as seniors. Here you will find the top 3 finalists for each grade level that were recognized at the 2021 “This I Believe” Writing Contest Awards Ceremony.
