Review: Rattlers on a tear

The Rattlers football team has been on a tear. Going 3-2 in preseason and currently 2-0 in league. Big wins over La quinta High School and Xavier Prep put the Rattlers in 2nd place in the Desert Empire League just behind Palm Desert High School. Some of the team’s biggest assets range from skill players that make big plays like Gabrial Sainz and down to the trenches with their O line helping their QB shine.

One of their O line men Julian Madrigal stated “I think we will make the playoffs. Since we started spring ball in May everyone knew where they wanted to go. After last year being the laughing stock of the valley the 2019 group knew we didn’t want it again.” Madrigal further went on to say “This year we had a rough start, we spent an extended time in the classroom rather than practice because not all the players had the grades needed to play. So we started working harder in both aspects on and off the field. We have a group where we can turn on the switch and handle anything we can. We are a different group than last year.”

The Rattlers are famous for their run game. They have always had a weapon loaded to run the ball. It is no surprise to see that again this year. Gabe Sainz is ripping up records left by previous running back Marquis Prior. In the last game against Xavier Prep, Sainz left the Saints defense in the dust as he ran 328 yards for 2 touchdowns that night. The Rattlers truly have a special group this year. Compared to last year, which the team went 0-5 in league they have things to make up and they are doing just that. Not just offensively, but defensively as well. Players like Marcus Eason and Jevin Dorsey eat up on both sides of the ball. There haven’t been athletes who work like these two do. These two do not do it all on their own though, they have help from their elite defensive players from Nathan Campbell, Joshua Davidson, and Damian Henderson.

All these guys dog out on the field aiding to help stop the defense and get them closer to making playoffs. RMHS’s new group is full of the valley’s best players, from D1 athletes to players always being mentioned weekly on the desert sun sports this team is for sure bound to make playoffs and make it far as well.
